What You'll Do:

As a Virtual Sign Language Interpreter, you will provide real-time, accurate interpretation services across various platforms and settings. Your core responsibilities will include:

• Real-time Interpretation: Facilitate effective communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals and hearing individuals using American Sign Language (ASL), Pidgin Signed English (PSE), and other relevant sign systems.
• Diverse Settings: Interpret in a wide range of virtual environments, which may include healthcare appointments, educational settings, business meetings, legal proceedings, community events, and general appointments.
• Accuracy & Nuance: Render messages accurately and completely, conveying the meaning, intent, and cultural nuances of both source and target languages.
• Ethical Conduct: Adhere strictly to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct (or equivalent ethical guidelines) at all times, maintaining impartiality, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
• Cultural Competency: Demonstrate a strong understanding of Deaf culture and community norms, ensuring culturally appropriate interpretations.
• Preparation & Research: Prepare for assignments by reviewing materials, understanding context, and researching specialized terminology as needed.
• Technical Proficiency: Effectively utilize virtual interpreting platforms, troubleshooting minor technical issues to ensure smooth communication flow.
• Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain all required certifications and licensure.

What We're Looking For:

• Alaska Licensure: MUST HOLD AN ACTIVE AND VALID SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER LICENSE ISSUED BY THE STATE OF ALASKA. Applications without this specific licensure will not be considered.
• National Certification: Active and valid national certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) (e.g., NIC, CI/CT, CSC) or an equivalent nationally recognized certification.
• Experience: Minimum of [e.g., 2-3] years of professional interpreting experience, with prior experience in virtual interpreting highly preferred.
• Language Fluency: Exceptional fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English, with strong command of vocabulary, grammar, and cultural contexts in both languages.
