We are looking for a meticulous and highly experienced Controller to manage the financial operations of our renewable solar energy company. The ideal candidate will oversee accounting functions, financial reporting, and internal controls, while ensuring precise reporting and adherence to regulations and industry standards. They should possess direct experience with distributed generation solar and battery storage projects within the renewable energy sector.

The Controller will have the autonomy to review and improve departmental practices, fostering continuous enhancement and growth to help the business achieve its short-term and long-term objectives.

Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Manage month-end closing to ensure reliable monthly reporting process.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Coordinate and manage external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.

 Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
  • Maintain and improve accounting systems, processes, and policies

Project & Cost Accounting (Industry-Specific)

  • Manage tracking of capital expenditures and project costs related to solar installations and infrastructure.
  • Work with accounting team to ensure accurate project costing and revenue recognition through close coordination with engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
  • Manage grant funding, tax incentives (e.g., ITC), and renewable energy credits (RECs) accounting.

 Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage and develop the accounting team, providing mentorship and training.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and financial discipline across the organization.

 

EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting 
  • 5-7 years’ experience in Accounting, Distributed Generation
  • 8-10 years’ experience in accounting

 

KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Self-motivated and Self-directed
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under various deadlines.
  • Computer skills: MS office – advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge and/or experience with utilizing ERP systems (Sage/Concur)
  • Experience with multi-location, multi-entity, and/or multi-state operation.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organized & detail oriented; able to keep sight of multiple deadlines & responsibilities.
  • Proven experience in leading finance teams, fostering collaboration, and professional development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engagement with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in remote and hybrid settings, demonstrating adaptability and self-motivation.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Distributed Generation and in management role overseeing a Corporate Accounting team.
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience, with preference for renewable energy or construction accounting.
