About the position

The Clinical Informatics Specialist promotes the knowledge, integration, and application of healthcare information technology in support of clinician/provider targets, the organization's vision and strategic goals, and industry best practices. This position drives the optimal, efficient, and effective use of clinical information systems and technology as it relates to patient care, patient safety, user satisfaction, clinical productivity, and quality outcomes. The specialist serves as a key constituent that bridges the gap between people, process, clinical knowledge, and technology. Utilizing knowledge of Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) policies, procedures, and processes, the Clinical Informatics Specialist provides guidance and feedback for process improvements, user acceptance testing, education, and implementation/upgrade assistance. The role requires knowledge of one or more service line workflows and their impacts on technology, acting as an operational advocate for a service line and participating in user acceptance testing. The specialist demonstrates knowledge of healthcare regulations and their impact on end-user workflows and existing functionality through participation in educational workshops. They assist with the investigation and resolution of problems, capable of solving complex issues that extend across single service lines or business units. The role involves following up with customers during and after service delivery to ensure their needs are met. Additionally, the Clinical Informatics Specialist organizes project tasks against milestones and deliverables with minimal supervision, managing time effectively to meet all project deadlines. They partner with the EPIC training team and Clinical Informatics Leadership to develop clinical communication, assist with discovery and design sessions, and develop basic presentation and meeting facilitation skills. The specialist serves as a resource to end users for information systems and technology, providing ongoing support for upgrades, new releases, and enhanced functionality, while effectively communicating system changes and workflow process changes to clinicians and providers. Participation in the Clinical Informatics council and assuming additional responsibilities to facilitate team goals is also expected. The specialist sets clear self-development expectations and demonstrates initiative in professional self-development, actively partnering with others to assist in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with EPIC training team and Clinical Informatics Leadership to develop clinical communication and assists with discovery and design sessions.
  • Serves as a resource to end users for information systems and technology, completing rounding in assigned inpatient/outpatient areas.
  • Provides ongoing help for all upgrades, new releases and enhanced functionality, effectively communicating system changes to all clinicians/providers.
  • Participates in Clinical Informatics council and assumes additional responsibilities to facilitate the achievement of team goals.
  • Sets clear self-development expectations and demonstrates initiative in professional self-development.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of experience in a clinical environment required.
  • Two or more years of experience working in an informatics role preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
  • Licensed clinician such as nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, pharmacy technician, dietitian, respiratory therapist, etc. preferred.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), social and organizational skills.
  • Self-directed with excellent organization, critical and social skills.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical practice as it pertains to the integration of clinical information systems/technology and impact on end users.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical practice issues and compliance with current standards/competencies and regulatory bodies.
  • Able to manage multiple projects.
